Great to meet Ilias Benmokrane, a BU student who built the Boston Bus Simulator game on Roblox. The game has received more than one million unique plays to date and has a community of more than 25,000 active members. The game encourages all users to research, and even begin riding, regional transit in their own cities and towns. So impressed by the transit policy conversations inspired by this game and can’t wait to see the finished product of the Lynn prototype! See MoreSee Less

During yesterday's session, the Senate passed transformative legislation that will create a new uniform, research-based curriculum framework from kindergarten to 3rd grade for school districts in Massachusetts. It will strengthen students' confidence and ensure educators have the tools and resources to support student success. The curriculum would be approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and would focus on phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and phonemic awareness. The legislation also includes $25 million in one-time funding from the “Fair Share” surtax to ensure that school districts are able to purchase new, evidence-based curricula and provide the necessary professional development support to teachers, paraprofessionals, and reading specialists. Thank you to the educators, advocates, and all those who have provided their insights to inform this legislation. See MoreSee Less

Thank you to Mr. Lewis and the communications classes at Swampscott High School for bringing attention to the ongoing hunger crisis through the annual Give and Grow Dinner, with this year’s proceeds going to My Brother’s Table! The students did an incredible job running the restaurant, and we appreciate their advocacy to combat food insecurity in our local communities. See MoreSee Less

As Chair of the Senate Committee on Juvenile and Emerging Adult Justice, I know how critical it is to support the organizations that are directly working with transition-age youth as they navigate the path to adulthood. Huge thank you to Lesli Suggs, President and CEO of The Home for Little Wanderers for hosting the Committee for a visit to Liberty Village in Boston today. Liberty Village serves as an innovative transitional living program for youth aging out of state systems, providing safe housing, individualized support, and a community of stability for young adults building their independence. We had a chance to meet with their staff and see firsthand how the policy decisions we make impact both the daily experiences and long-term outcomes of these young people. Thank you for having us!
